2 held for multiple house break-in cases

MUMBAI: Two men, accused of multiple house break-in cases, were arrested from Nallasopar­a on Friday. Their confession­s also led to the arrest of two jewellers from south Mumbai.

Based on a tip-off, a six-member team, made by inspector Vinod Kanavaje from Santracruz police station and led by sub-inspector Vinayak Jadhav and , went to arrest the accused, Mohammed Shaikh and his accomplice, Shakil. What followed was no less than a Bollywood-style cop-accused chase. As soon as the team reached the spot, Mohammed went on top of the house and hid under a cover.

“An officer pulled out his gun, and warned Mohammed,” said an officer.

However, he opened his shirt and dared the cop to shoot him. He then jumped off the terrace to escape, but landed between the rest of the police team. “They have a history of house break-in crimes. Mohammed has eight cases against him of which three are from Vile Parle (West).” said an officer.

On interrogat­ion, the brothers told the police that they had made a deal with a few jewellers to whom they sold stolen gold after melting it.

The jewellers would make ornaments out of the stolen gold This led to the arrest of two jewellers, Buddhadeb Das from Zaveri Bazaar and Himanshu Pore from Kalbadevi.
