Tiger, Mcilroy to start together

MISSOURI, US: Tiger Woods, Rory Mcilroy and Justin Thomas are in the same group for the first two rounds at next week’s PGA Championsh­ip in Missouri, organisers announced on Friday.

Woods, winner of 14 majors, remains the game’s biggest drawcard despite a long drought in the four championsh­ips that comprise the grand slam.

Mcilroy is a four-times major champion, including the 2012 and 2014 PGA Championsh­ips, while Thomas is defending champion after last year’s triumph at Quail Hollow in North Carolina.

They will tee off at Bellerive in St. Louis on Thursday.

The 44-year-old was detained on Friday afternoon for “forceful entry and threats” on his neighbour.

KOLESNIKOV SETS 50M BACKSTROKE RECORD

GLASGOW: Kliment Kolesnikov broke the men’s 50m backstroke world record at the European Championsh­ips in Glasgow on Saturday. The 18-year-old Russian clocked a time of 24.00 seconds to win gold, shaving 0.04sec off the previous mark set by Britain’s Liam Tancock in 2009.
