MHADA EXTENDS DATE FOR HOUSING LOTTERY TO AUG 18

THANE: Maharashtr­a Housing and Area Developmen­t Authority (Mhada) has extended the date for applying for its 9,018 low-cost houses in the outskirts of Mumbai till August 18. According to

Vaishali Gadpale, chief public relations officer (PRO), Mhada, this was done due to public demand. Till now 40,814 people have applied, which according to many, is very less and has been attributed to the higher cost of these flats.

Organs harvested from city woman save three lives

MUMBAI: Organs harvested from Jasmeet Kaur Rawat, 42, gave a new lease of life to three patients suffering from end-stage organ failure on Tuesday. Rawat was admitted at a Powai hospital after she fell unconsciou­s at her home on August 5. She was diagnosed with intracrani­al bleeding with brain stem dysfunctio­n.

We are safe: 2 brothers kidnapped in Malaysia

DOMBIVLI: Two brothers, who have been kidnapped in Malaysia while on a business tour, called their family on Monday night and said they were safe, said an officer from Dombivli police station. Dombivli police are in touch with their Malaysian counterpar­ts to trace the brothers. The kidnappers have allegedly demanded a ransom of ₹1 crore for their release.

Kalyan man, wife, 4yrold injured in pothole accident

KALYAN: A 39-year-old man was severely injured after he fell off his motorcycle along with his wife and four-year-old daughter when their vehicle skid due to a pothole on Adharwadi road in Kalyan (West) on Tuesday. Chetan Umrotkar injured his leg and hand while his wife Kirti, 39, and their daughter Vardha suffered minor bruises.

ULHASNAGAR: A man and his farther have been arrested while other family members were booked for allegedly killing a 19-year-old woman in Kurla Camp, Ulhasnagar. According to the police, Kawaljeet Labhana was being tortured by her husband and in-laws for not giving dowry of ₹1 lakh.

Ratnagiri man held with leopard skin in Kharghar

NAVI MUMBAI: A 52-year-old man from Ratnagiri who had come to Navi Mumbai with a leopard skin, was recently arrested by the crime branch. Acting on a tip-off, police from crime branch (unit 3) and forest officials laid a trap near a shopping mall at Kharghar on July 30 and arrested Ashraf Chipolkar before he could flee the spot.

Man attempts suicide by jumping into Kalyan creek

KALYAN: A man who tried committing suicide by jumping into the Kalyan creek was detained by the Khadakpada police on Tuesday. Subhashcha­ndra Borade, 40, had threatened to commit suicide in protest against the illegal constructi­ons in the city and the ineffectiv­eness of KDMC.

134 people cheated of ₹13.77 cr, four booked

MUMBAI: Dadar Police have booked four people for cheating 134 people of ₹13.77 crore. The accused showed three different projects to the victims in Karjat, and took cash from them on the pretext of selling them flats. The deal dates to back to 2005. But none of the homebuyers received possession of their flats.
