RAIN INTENSITY TO BE LESS THIS WEEKEND: IMD

MUMBAI : The IMD forecast stated that the city and suburbs will get a few spells of rain on Friday. Between 8.30am and 8.30pm on Thursday, South Mumbai recorded 4.2mm rain while the suburbs recorded 2mm. The IMD said the intensity of rainfall is likely to be less through the weekend. “We expect strong weather systems to pick up from August 15,” said Ajay Kumar, scientist, India Meteorolog­ical Department, Mumbai.

Nusli Wadia to be petitioner in Jinnah house case: HC

MUMBAI: The Bombay high court allowed Wadia Group chairman Nusli Neville Wadia, to replace his late mother Dina Wadia, as a petitioner to fight for the ownership of Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s house in city. Jinnah House’ has been at the centre of a prolonged legal battle between Jinnah’s daughter Dina Wadia and the Indian government.

Fire in Andheri due to LPG leakage, four injured

MUMBAI: A fire due to gas leakage from an LPG cylinder was reported at Nehru Nagar in Andheri (West) on Thursday evening. The injured include Mangesh Shinde, 40, Ramila Shinde,37, Vaijayanti Shinde, 60 and Ramesh Patade, 54.

Man held for hypnotisin­g, robbing people at airport

MUMBAI: Chandan Singh Rana, an Uttarakhan­d resident, was arrested on Thursday, at the internatio­nal airport for hypnotisin­g and robbing passengers. The accused was held after Rana was caught robbing a passenger’s mobile in CCTV at T2 arrival.

Bring law for preprimary schools: Aaditya Thackeray

MUMBAI: Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray demanded that the Centre should enact a law to regulate pre-primary schools. Thackeray met Human Resource Developmen­t minister Prakash Javadekar on Thursday in New Delhi and said that the Right to Education (RTE) Act “stands useless” if it does not include pre-primary schools under its ambit.

Five lakh stolen from businessma­n’s office

NAVI MUMBAI : The AMPC police registered a case after some unidentifi­ed people stole ₹5 lakh from an office at Sanpada on Wednesday night. According to the police, Sanjay Gawde, who is into fruit business, had kept the cash in a cupboard in his office. The police have booked the accused under different sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Police raise awareness to curb crimes against women

THANE: Following the murder of a 20-year-old student by her former boyfriend, the Kalwa police are conducting awareness around colleges and schools. Police will check if there are any cases registered by women, complainin­g about harassment against them. The initiative is taken to give better protection to women.
