PARRIKAR TO RETURN TO GOA NEXT WEEK: CMO

PANAJI: Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar will return to Goa from the USA on August 22, an official said on Thursday. Parrikar, 62, had left for the US on August 10 for a follow-up check-up of his ailment. “The Chief Minister will reach Goa from the

USA on August 22,” a senior official from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said. Before leaving for the USA, Parrikar had attended the monsoon session of the Goa Assembly and also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi.

Four soldiers injured in militant firing near LOC

SRINAGAR: Four soldiers were injured when militants and the army exchanged firing on the Line of Control (LOC) in Nowgam sector. The search operation is underway to track the militants responsibl­e for the attack. The Army has not issued any statement about the attack, however, officials said that as the army was patrolling near the LOC in Nowgam sector, they came under militant fire resulting injuries to four soldiers. The injured soldiers were evacuated to hospital. Soon after the attack, search operation was launched which is still going on. Officials however said that it is not clear whether the attackers were infiltrato­rs or members of Pakistan’s Border Action Tea (BAT).
