Anand draws with Vachierlag­rave in Sinquefiel­d Cup

STLOUIS,USA:FORMER world champion Viswanatha­n Anand played out a draw with Maxime-vachier-lagrave of France in the second round of Sinquefiel­d Cup here on Monday.

Anand tried engaging Maxime-vachier-lagrave in a theoretica­l duel but did not find ways to score his first victory. Having drawn the first game against Hikaru Nakamura of United States, Anand lie joint fourth along with Nakamura, Vachier-lagrave, local star Fabiano Caruana and Alexander Grischuk of Russia with one point.

Norwegian Magnus Carlsen was in the lead along with Levon Aronian of Armenia and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov of Azerbaijan with 1.5 points out of a possible two.

U-16 TEAM GOES DOWN FIGHTING 1-2 TO OMAN

NEW DELHI: The Indian under-16 football team went down fighting 1-2 to Oman in a friendly fixture in Turkey on Monday.

Oman scored on either side of the half-time, while Vikram reducing the margin by scoring from the penalty spot in the added time of the match.

PARK RETURNS TO WORLD NO 1

LOS ANGELES: Park Sung-hyun is headed back to the world No 1 spot after a birdie at the first playoff hole lifted her to a US LPGA victory over Lizette Salas in Indianapol­is on Sunday.

South Korean Park’s third win of the season sees her vault from fourth in the rankings to supplant Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn at the top.

Ariya finished tied for seventh. Both Park and Salas finished 72 holes at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course on 23-under par 265.
