WITH A LARGE NUMBER OF SEATS ACROSS JUNIOR COLLEGES IN THE MMR REGION STILL VACANT, PARENTS DEMANDED CLARITY ON THE ISSUE

MUMBAI: As the five-round admission process to first-year junior colleges ended on Tuesday, students who are yet to register for seats are now waiting for the state education department to reopen the admission portal for fresh applications. Among these are students who have appeared for the Class 10 supplementary exams and students from the other school education boards that have a different academic calendar.

Many such students who are yet to register into the admission portal are now queuing up outside the office of the deputy director in Charni Road, hoping to get some clarity on the issue. While the state education department has announced a first come, first served (FCFS) round for those who are yet to get a seat, they are yet to announce a schedule for those who are yet to register on the admission portal.

With colleges already beginning their academic years, these students are now anxious about when they would get a seat. “My daughter was studying in Dubai in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) board. She got her results only recently and we landed in Mumbai just three days back. Presently, there is no clarity about how admissions of such students would happen,” said a parent from Bandra, on the condition of anonymity.

With a large number of seats across junior colleges in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) still vacant, parents demanded clarity on the issue.

“If the schedule is declared in time, we can claim a seat in a good college before all the options run out,” said a student from Borivli.

Calls and messages to various officials from the education department went unanswered.

Tuesday was the last day for students who have been allotted seats in the special merit list to secure their admission.

The state education department would put up a revised seat matrix on its official website on August 25.
