GOVT TO CHECK PORN UPLOAD ON SOCIAL MEDIA

NEW DELHI: Union ministers and top officials met on Tuesday to discuss the problem of unabated uploading of pornograph­ic materials on Youtube and some social media sites using laptops and smartphone­s, and discussed ways to check it, government officials said. The discussion came following a Supreme Court directive on the subject in response to a writ petition filed by a Hyderabadb­ased NGO. The meeting was attended by home minister Rajnath Singh and IT and law ,minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. The government will have to file an affidavit soon, giving details of the action taken by it in this regard. It has already set up an online cybercrime-reporting portal to block videos of sexual offences on social sites.

Congress chief leaves for 4day visit to UK, Germany

NEW DELHI: Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday left for a four-day tour of the United Kingdom and Germany, where he is likely to hold interactio­ns with the Indian diaspora and meet foreign dignitarie­s. According to sources, during the visit as part of the party’s NRI outreach programme , Gandhi is also likely to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel. He will thereafter visit the UK where he will address an event organised by the Indian Overseas Congress in collaborat­ion with some local Indian-origin parliament­arians.

Amarnath Yatra halted due to nonavailab­ility of pilgrims

JAMMU: The Amarnath Yatra was suspended from Jammu on Tuesday due to non-availabili­ty of adequate number of pilgrims, officials said, adding that it may be resumed depending on the arrival of pilgrims at the base camp. However, the Budha Amarnath Yatra went smoothly with the fifth batch of 449 devotees leaving Bhagwati Nagar base camp for the mountainou­s shrine of Lord Shiva in Poonch district, they said. On Monday, the smallest batch of 43 pilgrims left the base camp for Kashmir to undertake the annual yatra to the 3,880 metre-high holy cave shrine.
