So far, such checks at residential properties had not been conducted. “We have introduced a new and more stringent procedure for fire safety only last month,” chief fire officer P Rahangdale confirmed. While most families affected in the Crystal Tower blaze were looking for shelters on Thursday, the Kapoors have decided to stay put, even though the water and power supply were disconnected. “My wife, son and I will not leave the flat. It is our home. We have been living here since 1995. We will drink bottled water and live in candle light,” said Rajinder Kapoor.
“Follow-up investigations of existing high-rise buildings will also be done to check if they follow the mandatory bi-annual fire audits, and comply with fire safety.”
