‘Mikhail conspired with Rai to make Sheena disappear’

- HT Correspondent Sheena Bora

MUMBAI: The defence lawyer of Indrani Mukerjea accused her son Mikhail Bora of hatching a conspiracy with her driver Shyamwar Rai to “cause disappearance of Sheena Bora” over share in their grandparents’ property. Lawyer Sudeep Pasbola on Thursday concluded cross examination of Mikhail, a key witness in the Sheena Bora murder case. Pasbola alleged that Mikhail and Rai — Indrani’s driver and approver in the case — were constantly in touch and could have hatched the conspiracy to make Sheena disappear.

Pasbola sought an explanation from Mikhail over the several calls he had exchanged with Rai from January 2012 to April 2012.

“Between January and April 2012, you were in constant touch with Rai and had talked to him more than 207 times,” Pasbola said. The defence said between April 16 and April 18, the duo spoke over call almost 34 times.

Pasbola claimed that Mikhail was falsely implicating Indrani in the case. Attributing motive behind, Passbola said that property owned by Mikhail and Sheena’s grandparents were distributed between them. However, Mikhail wanted to grab her share in the property too, for which he hatched a conspiracy with Rai to “cause Sheena’s disappearance.” Mikhail denied all allegations and said that his grandparents had already made a new will in April 2012, before Sheena went missing. In the new will, they had bequeathed 90% of the property to him and left only 10% for Sheena, Mikhail told the court negating allegations made by Indrani’s lawyers. Meanwhile Pasbola argued on the bail plea filed by Indrani before the CBI court in connection with the murder case.

Pasbola said that Indrani has a threat to her life in jail for several reasons. He claimed that she is a witness in the case filed by CBI against P Chidambaram and his son. Passbola stressed on her health and said she needed constant monitoring and good treatment. The court adjourned the hearing on bail plea for CBI to respond on Monday.
