FOURYEAROLD DONATES PIGGY BANK SAVINGS
KOLKATA: A four-year-old girl from South Kolkata on Wednesday donated her piggy bank savings to the Kerala relief fund set up by the
CPI(M). Aparajita Saha, a resident of Jadavpur, had saved around ₹14,800 from the gifts she had received during her birthday to buy a CD player to rehearse for her dance classes. She handed over the money to CPI(M) leader Biman Bose at the state party office here. After seeing the visuals of Kerala floods on TV channels, she decided to donate the money for deluge victims.
Defence minister to visit floodhit Kodagu today
MADIKERI: Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman will on Friday visit the flood and landslide-ravaged Kodagu district, bordering Kerala, where rescue and relief operations are underway in full swing. The torrential rains that lashed the district last week has left a huge trail of destruction and claimed at least 16 lives. Thousands have been rendered homeless. Sitharaman is expected to reach Kushalnagar on Friday morning and scheduled to visit affected areas.
Kerala gets 259 tonnes of food from Punjab
CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government on Thursday sent more than 259 tonnes of food items for the people of Kerala, officials said. To ensure proper distribution of the relief material, the state government has also sent a three-member team, revenue and disaster management minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria said. CM Amarinder Singh has announced ₹10 crore as relief for the flood victims, out of which ₹ 5 crore has been transferred to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund of Kerala and the remaining amount was dispatched along with the food material.
