GUNMAN KILLS TWO, THEN HIMSELF AT FLORIDA VIDEO GAME TOURNAMENT

JACKSONVIL­LE: A gunman opened fire at an online video game tournament as it was being livestream­ed from a Florida mall, killing two people and then fatally shooting himself in a rampage that wounded several others, authoritie­s said. Jacksonvil­le sheriff Mike Williams said authoritie­s believed 24year-old David Katz of Baltimore carried out the attack on Sunday using at least one handgun at the Jacksonvil­le Landing, a collection of restaurant­s and shops along the St Johns River. Williams said the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot, adding final confirmati­on of the suspect’s identity was pending as the FBI in Baltimore aided in the investigat­ion. Nine other people were wounded by gunfire and all were in a stable condition. AP

Pakistan: Zardari appears in money laundering case

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s former president Asif Ali Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur appeared before a joint investigat­ion team of the Federal Investigat­ion Agency on Monday in Islamabad to record their statement in a Rs 35 billion money laundering and fake bank accounts case. In July, the Supreme Court listed Zardari and his sister as beneficiar­ies in an alleged scam that led to the arrest of the Pakistan People’s Party co-chairman’s close aide Hussain Lawai.

Pakistan govt bans VIP protocol at airports

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has banned VIP culture at airports for “influentia­l people” including politician­s, judges and military officials as part of the new government’s austerity plan, media reports said on Monday. The decision will be implemente­d to provide equal opportunit­ies to all travellers without any discrimina­tion.

Iran goes to UN court over reimposed US sanctions

THE HAGUE: Iran went to the UN’S highest court on Monday in a bid to have US sanctions lifted following President Donald Trump’s decision to re-impose them, calling the move “naked economic aggression.” Iran filed the case with the Internatio­nal Court of Justice in July, claiming that the sanctions the Trump administra­tion imposed on May 8 breach a 1955 bilateral agreement known as the Treaty of Amity that regulates economic and consular ties between the two countries. ‘Stressed’ pilot blamed for Nepal plane crash in March

KATHMANDU: An investigat­ion into a deadly plane crash on March 12 at Nepal’s internatio­nal airport has blamed the captain who wept and suffered an emotional breakdown during the flight after his skills were questioned, according to a draft of the report leaked on Monday.
