Pogba will be welcomed at Barca: Pique

Madrid:barcelona defender Gerard Pique has said Paul Pogba would be welcome at the Nou Camp if the Frenchman ends up leaving Manchester United. “We would be happy to have him (Pogba) here,” Pique told reporters on Monday. “I know little about what he is going through in Manchester and the relationsh­ip that exists (between Pogba and coach Jose Mourinho). Pogba is a very good player, but a Manchester United player right now.”

DORTMUND THRASH LEIPZIG 4-1

BERLIN: Borussia Dortmund eased past RB Leipzig 4-1 on Sunday after coming from a goal down, to make a winning Bundesliga start under new coach Lucien Favre.

After Jean-kevin Augustin had scored for Leipzig after only 31 seconds, Dortmund got down to business, grabbing three goals in 22 minutes through Mahmoud Dahoud, Marcel Sabitzer’s own goal and Axel Witsel.

Captain Marco Reus completed a quick break for his 100th Bundesliga goal in second half stoppage time.

INTER LOSE GROUND AFTER DRAW

MILAN: Inter Milan lost further ground by letting a two-goal lead slip to draw 2-2 with Torino on Sunday.

After going ahead with goals from Ivan Perisic and Stefan de Vrij, Inter lost their way as Andrea Belotti pulled one back for Torino before Soualiho Metie earned the point on 68 minutes. Meanwhile 43 minutes of silence was observed in the game between Genoa and Empoli in memory of the 43 victims of the a recent bridge tragedy in Genoa.

Playing at home, Genoa edged past Empoli 2-1.

MUMBAI CITY FC TO TRAIN IN THAILAND

MUMBAI:INDIAN Super League outfit, Mumbai City Football Club (MCFC), will have their pre-season tour in Thailand where they will be playing four games ahead of the fifth season of the league commencing on September 29.

“They have started the preseason four days ago in New {Navi) Mumbai and all the players will go to Thailand on Thursday (September 30) and five foreign players will join the team directly in Thailand,” Mumbai City FC CEO Indranil Das Blah told reporters at the club’s media briefing here on Monday.

KENYA WELCOMES NEW DRUG-TESTING LAB

Nairobi:athletics Kenya on Monday welcomed the establishm­ent in Nairobi of a World Anti-doping Agency-approved blood testing laboratory for East Africa declaring it a big step in their anti-doping fight.

The laboratory, due to open next month, will test all doping cases in internatio­nal track and field in Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Tanzania and Uganda.

“This is the best news we have received this year, and we in Athletics Kenya are very excited about it because it will help us to fight this menace of doping effectivel­y,” said president Jackson Tuwei at a news conference on Monday.
