GOREGAON TO PANVEL TRAINS BY DEC; CSMT TO BORIVLI IN 2023
MUMBAI: Come December, commuters will be able to travel from Goregaon to Panvel without switching trains.
This will be made possible by the Western Railway (WR) which is planning to start operation of local train services between Goregaon and Panvel by the yearend. At present, suburban train services on WR are operational between Andheri and Panvel.
“We are working on introducing new services between Goregaon and Andheri in the new time table. Services will be introduced by year-end,” said a senior WR official. The Harbour Railway extension from Andheri till Goregaon was completed this year and local train services started operating from April. The Union railway minister Piyush Goyal during the inauguration of the Harbour Railway line till Goregaon had announced further extension of the corridor till Borivli station.
This will allow passengers to take a train directly from CSMT on the Central Railway.
Themumbairailvikascorporation (MRVC), body — specially created for planning and execution of projects in suburban railway — will undertake the extension work of the Western Railway-harbour line till Borivli. The extension is likely to be completed by 2023.
