Teen loses...

“The girl’s father approached the tehsildar’s office and complained about the fake certificate issued from his office,” Bhise said.

“The employee was apprehended and a police case was registered against him.”

The advocate added that the tehsildar’s office then issued the original domicile certificate, but by this time, the girl’s provisional admission was cancelled. “Authorities did not give the girl a hearing, and when they did, it was too late as the seat had already been allotted to the next student,” said Bhise.

The bench of justice BR Gavai and Justice MS Karnik asked the state if it could return the seat to the girl, as she had been denied for no fault of hers. Advocate S S Patwardhan, appearing for the state Central Entrance Test (CET) cell, said that would not be possible, but the student could be accommodated in a private medical college based on her merit.

On hearing this, the girl, the daughter of an army man, said her father could not afford the fees.

“She had the option of taking admission in a private medical college even last year, but decided to drop it as she wanted to get a seat in a government college. Now, when she has earned the seat, she is being robbed of it because of the corrupt practices of the government employee. We would be obliged if the court would direct the state to accommodate her in a government college,” said Bhise.

The court has asked the state to respond to the plea and posted the matter for Friday, as August 31 is the last date for admissions.
