Parents at Kandivli school want separate girls’ canteen, buses

- Ankita Bhatkhande

MUMBAI: A day after the police registered a complaint against an unidentified student for allegedly molesting a Class 6 girl at a private school in Kandivli (West), parents of students met school officials on Saturday and demanded safety measures.

Parents raised concerns about the safety and security measures in school.

They suggested that the school include a separate canteen and buses for girls. They also threatened to resume protests if their demands were not met.

“The incident has proved that the school is not safe for our kids, especially girls. We want school officials to have separate provisions for girl students, in order to avoid such incidents in the future,” said one of the parents.

They have also demanded the suspension of the principal and a Class 6 teacher for ignoring the child’s complaint.

“The principal is equally responsible for this. If the girl had immediately raised a red flag, why was it ignored at that point? We demand that the principal and the concerned teacher be suspended immediately,” said the parent.

While the school had asked

parents to come for a meeting at 10am, parents said that they were not allowed to enter the school premises until 12pm.

Angry parents finally forced the school security to open the gates after which, they went to meet the officials.

The school has scheduled another meeting with the parents on September 8.

HT tried to contact school officials, but there was no response.
