Considering that Mumbai is a coastal city, it’s disheartening to see the lack of interest in swimming as a sport. Authorities should bring it in the mainstream by providing relevant infrastructure.

For long, open spaces have been hubs for cricket. It’s time we use them effectively for athletics. I feel that sports like shooting and squash are only available to the privileged few. They should also be made accessible to all.

Even if all the facilities are provided, change can occur only when attitudes change. There’s a notion that only students who are weak in studies resort to playing sports. We need to break this stereotype by making sports a mainstream career option, with remuneration on par with other jobs.

ARMAN KHAN them during holidays. Corporates should also come forward and fund schools so that they can set up sport facilities.

Mumbai has so many beaches. These can be perfect sites to develop interest in beach volleyball. Public parks should have levelled surfaces for badminton enthusiasts.

Everyone must take active part in sports. We may not become champions but the sports we play will surely make us better humans. The beauty of sports is in playing and not just cheering in front of a television set.
