THANE: The Thane police have arrested a 23-year-old rickshaw driver for allegedly killing his sister’s boyfriend. Police said the accused, Rahul Namdev, had warned the couple several times to break their relationship.

The victim, Babbu Bagdi, 25, was brutally thrashed by Namdev, and died due to internal injuries.

On Sunday evening, Namdev had called Bagdi at an isolated place in Barkupada, Ambernath (East), to discuss the latter’s relationship with the accused’s sister.

The two got into a heated argument and Namdev assaulted Bagdi brutally.

A police officer from Shivaji Nagar police station, said, “When Bagdi fell unconscious, Namdev fled the spot. He suffered injuries in his private parts. Later that night, some passers-by alerted the police and his family members about Namdev.”

During primary investigations, police lodged an accident death report (ADR).

“Some locals said they had seen Bagdi and Namdev together in the evening,” said the officer.

Police then questioned Nam-

dev and checked his mobile location. During interrogation, Namdev confessed to his crime.

The officer said, “Bagdi and Namdev’s sister were in a relationship from the last two years. Namdev had told them he was unhappy with their relationship because Bagdi would work as a labourer. Despite Namdev’s warnings, the couple continued with their relationship, so Namdev decided to teach them a lesson.”

Namdev was arrested under section 302 (punishment for murder) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
