Six arrested for cheating two bizmen of ₹50 lakh
MUMBAI: Six people were arrested by Sewree police on Wednesday for allegedly cheating an aluminium scrap dealer of ₹50 lakh.
According to the police, the main accused, Dilip Prajapati, 32, had come in contact with an aluminium businessman, a few months ago at Kolsa Bunder in Daarukhaana at Sewree.
Prajapati had introduced himself as a buyer and showed interest in buying 15,060kg of aluminium scrap. The officers said that Prajapati then struck a deal and told the businessman he would pay through cheque. Prajapati duped the businessman after giving him a fake cheque of ₹27 lakh.
A few days later, Prajapati and his accomplices struck a deal with Manoharlal Mundada and promised him the scrap, which he possessed, for ₹26 lakhs. Mudada was told to send the amount to Prajapati’s account after which he would get the delivery.
Gajanan Kurhade, senior police inspector, Sewree police station said that they were approached by Mundada after he failed to receive the pre-paid delivery by Prajapati.
The police officers registered the FIR and through bank account information, the officers traced Prajapati and his accomplices, which includes a woman from Navi Mumbai.
“We laid a trap when we found that Prajapati had struck a deal for the same scrap with some other businessman. We then intercepted and arrested him,” said a police officer, Sewree police station.police arrested Prajapati’s accomplices and recovered ₹30 lakh from him.
