Terror plot: 2 held from Jalgaon sent to police custody till Sept 17
MUMBAI: Two accused, arrested from Jalgoan by the Maharashtra Anti-terrorism Squad (ATS) on Saturday, were produced before the special court for unlawful activities (Prevention Act) on Sunday and remanded in police custody till September 17.
Both the accused were arrested after their involvement came to light during the probe in a nationwide terror plot, allegedly involving members of a Hindu right-wing organisation.
The accused Liladhar Londhi, 32, and Vasudev Suryavanshi were arrested from Sakli village of Yavul taluka in Jalgoan district. Londhi is a small time grocery trader while Suryavanshi is a motor mechanic. While seeking the accused’s custody, the prosecutor argued the duo’s involvement in the crude bomb hauls case as well.
During a search of Londhi’s residence, three crude bombs, two mobile phones, four pen drives, and two number plates were seized. A DVD, five mini pocket diaries, three mobile phones and other materials were found at Suryavanshi’s home.
Prosecution further informed the court that BDDS (Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad), which visited Londhi’s residence to verify the three crude bombs, confirmed them to be explosives. The explosives were then sent to forensic science laboratory (FSL) at Kalina for chemical analysis.
An ATS officer said that two cars and six bikes were also recovered from both the accused and it appears that the vehicles are stolen. Among the suspicious items were CDS with arms training content, bomb-making literature and maps of different cities with marked locations, like the site of the music festival Sunburn in Pune, added the ATS officer. Londhi and Suryavanshi’s names came up during the interrogation of the five accused who were arrested in August and are suspected of planning terror attacks in different locations across the country.
