MUMBAI: Commuters travelling on the suburban local trains on Sunday faced inconvenie­nce as the railways operated maintenanc­e blocks on both Central and Western Railway. CR operated a maintenanc­e block on the fast line between Kalyan and Thane railway stations. The block was operated from 11.15am to 4.15pm. “The block was on the fast line but the slow line services were also affected; they were operating with a delay of 20 minutes. I was heading to Chhatrapat­i Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and was stuck at Kalyan for 40 minutes,” said Ankita Sinha, a Kalyan resident. The CR also operated a block on the harbour line between Kurla and Vashi railway stations. The block was operated from 11.10am to 4.10pm. The WR operated a maintenanc­e block between Churchgate and Mumbai Central station on the slow line. The block was operated between 10.35am to 3.35pm.

Man held for molesting woman twice in Bandra

MUMBAI: A 27-year-old man has been arrested on Saturday for allegedly molesting a woman twice. According to the Bandra police, the 26-year-old woman was molested on September 6 when she was walking on the road near Mount Mary Convent High School in Bandra (West). She, however,ignored it thinking the accused touched her by mistake as there was a huge crowd around them. However, on September 7, he again molested her. When she confronted him, he threatened to throw acid on her. The woman then lodged an FIR with the Bandra police after which the accused was nabbed.

Thieves break into houses of 3 retired police officers

KOLHAPUR: A gang of thieves broke into the houses of retired police officers DS Jodgudri, Shrikant Naik and Arun Kanitkar at Basarge in Kolhapur district on Saturday. They robbed ₹10.8 lakh worth of cash and gold from Jodgudri’s house. The worth of valuables stolen from the other two houses has not been ascertaine­d yet as the two families has not returned from Mumbai.

Money lender held after oil trader ends life

KOLHAPUR : Nikhil Mahabal, 26, one of the four money lenders who allegedly harassed oil trader Umesh Bajaj and caused his suicide, was arrested by Sangli police at Vashi in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.

Wrestler preparing for state competitio­n dies of fever

KOLHAPUR: A wrestler who had come from Barshi in Solapur to Kolhapur for receiving training fell sick and died of fever on Saturday. Baburao Bhosale, alias Sonu, was successful in earlier competitio­ns and was aspiring for award of Maharashtr­a Kesari. However, when he fell sick of because of fever, he returned to Barshi where he was hospitaliz­ed. He died due to response failure.
