Turmoil in JKCA over Irfan Pathan’s ‘interferen­ce’

JAMMU: Dhruv Mahajan, one of the four selection committee members of JKCA, has tendered his resignatio­n from the post, alleging interferen­ce by former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan in the selection process.

Pathan was recently appointed by Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Associatio­n (JKCA) as the playercum-mentor of its senior state side for the 2018-19 season.

“I have tendered my resignatio­n. Pathan has been doing a lot of interferen­ce in the team selection process which is in violation of the constituti­on,” Mahajan, former skipper of state Ranji Trophy team, said.

Asia Cup: India vs Hong Kong to get ODI status

NEW DELHI: The ICC has decided to accord One-day Internatio­nal status to India and Pakistan’s group league matches against Hong Kong in the upcoming Asia Cup, starting September 15, according to a BCCI official. Hong Kong, an ICC associate member, is yet to get ODI status but have beaten UAE, who recently earned the ODI status, to qualify for the Asia Cup. When a country doesn’t have an ODI status, the matches aren’t counted as official Onedayers.

‘Champions Trophy win has changed Pakistan team’

KARACHI: Former cricketer Aamir Sohail reckons the Pakistan team led by Sarfraz Ahmed will come up with a clinical show in the upcoming Asia Cup. “I think winning Champions Trophy changed the outlook of the Pakistan team. It gave them a lot of confidence and they are assured of their places now,” the former player said.
