KANDIVLI SCHOOL SECURITY UPPED AFTER MINOR’S MOLESTATION

- Ankita Bhatkhande

MUMBAI: The Kandivli school, where a minor was molested by a boy last week, has taken measures to better security on its campus.

The school has now installed CCTV cameras in classrooms in addition to those already in place in lobbies and at the entrance.

The move comes after parents of students protested outside the school on September 1, a day after parents of the molested student registered a police complaint.

A member of the school’s Parent Teacher Association said that after the incident, there has been an improvement in security measures. “We had demanded the school have a more vigilant security setup and also asked the school management to install CCTV cameras in classrooms for the safety of students,” said the parent, requesting anonymity.

While HT tried contacting the school management, staff refused to comment on the issue. A management member said, “All we can say is we have learned from the incident and are trying to better ourselves.”

Parents said that an additional canteen has also been created to avoid the rush during daily recess.

“We had demanded a separate canteen for girls and boys because there is a huge rush in the existing canteen during recess time which makes it easy for boys to misbehave with girls,” said another parent.

On Sunday, Charkop police identified a minor boy from the school as the accused and sent him to a correction centre.
