COURT ASKS PAK GOVT TO SUGGEST METHODS TO EXTRADITE MUSHARRAF

ISLAMABAD : A special court conducting the treason trial of former president Pervez Musharraf decided on Monday to conduct daily proceeding­s from October 9 and directed the interior ministry to suggest ways to bring the dictator back to Pakistan. The court asked prosecutor Nasiruddin Khan Nayyar to assist it in determinin­g whether Musharraf’s statement can be recorded under through video conferenci­ng and whether proceeding­s could progress in his absence. Musharraf is being tried for treason for imposing emergency in late 2007. The bench asked the government to submit a written reply stating whether it could ensure Musharraf’s presence in the special court.

Pak court issues arrest warrants against Abbasi

LAHORE: A Pakistani court on Monday issued a bailable arrest warrant against former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for skipping proceeding­s in a case seeking action against him for disclosing the minutes of a high-profile security meeting to PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif. The petition also seeks action against Sharif for alleged treason for stating that those involved in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks were from Pakistan. AGENCIES

Gen Purna Thapa takes charge as Nepal Army chief

KATHMANDU: Gen Purna Chandra Thapa, a decorated officer of the Nepal Army, was appointed as the new Chief of Army Staff on Sunday, according to a media report. RIYADH: Saudi authoritie­s have arrested a foreign hotel worker who appeared in an “offensive” video eating breakfast with a female colleague, the labour ministry said on Sunday. The woman, dressed in a full-length abaya and niqab veil, is seen waving to the camera and feeding the man — who was filming. The public prosecutio­n urged residents in the kingdom to respect “values and traditions of Saudi society”.

US cop held for shooting man in wrong apartment

CHICAGO: A white Texas police officer who entered an apartment mistaking it for her own and shot dead the black man who lived there was arrested on manslaught­er charges. Officer Amber Guyger with the Dallas Police Department was arrested on Sunday and booked into the county jail, the Texas department of public safety said.
