Sajan bags silver at world wrestling
NEW DELHI: Sajan Bhanwal became the first Indian to win back-to-back medals at the Junior World Wrestling Championship after he secured a silver in the 77kg Greco Roman category in Trnava, Slovakia.
The Haryana wrestler, who had won the gold at Junior Asia Championship in July, had defeated Dmytro Gardubei from Ukraine in the semi-finals.
BAI GIVES ₹1.6 CRORE TO STATE ASSOCIATIONS
NEWDELHI: The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has distributed cash incentive of ₹1.6 crores to the member state associations for development of the sport across the country. The decision was taken on Monday during the Executive Council (EC) meeting, presided over by BAI President Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The cash incentives will be distributed among the 32 state associations with each receiving a sum of ₹5 lakh for the development and promotion of the sport in the grassroots level.
JR TEAM NAMED FOR SULTAN OF JOHOR CUP
NEW DELHI: Hockey India on Wednesday named an 18-member junior men’s team for the upcoming Sultan of Johor Cup to be held in Malaysia from October 6-13. India are scheduled to play five round-robin matches against Malaysia, New Zealand, Japan, Australia and Great Britain, with their opening match against Malaysia on October 6. The tournament will be played in Johor Bahru.
U-16 GIRLS BEAT PAK IN AFC C’SHIP QUALIFIER
ULAANBAATAR, MONGOLIA: The Indian U-16 girls football team beat arch-rivals Pakistan 4-0 in the ongoing AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Qualifier at the MFF Stadium on Wednesday.
India are at the top of Group B, having collected six points from two matches. They will take on hosts Mongolia two days later.
