Man hacked as cops, people watch in Hyd

- Srinivasa Rao Apparasu

HYDERABAD: A man was hacked to death in a case of revenge killing in front of onlookers and, according to them, some policemen, at noon on the busy airport road at Attapur in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

The victim, identified as Ramesh (35) was returning from a criminal court at Upparpalli where he had gone in connection with a murder case.

As he was walking past the P V Narasimha Rao Expressway leading to the Rajiv Gandhi international airport, two persons chased him and attacked him with a hatchet. One hacked away at him while the other kept onlookers at bay.

Scores of people who were standing there could not do anything , although a few pulled out their mobile phones to capture the scene for posterity. A video that went viral within minutes showed a police patrol vehicle in the vicinity, but there were no policemen to be seen. An eyewitness told local media outlets that there were at least three policemen in the vehicle, but that they chose not to interfere.

Rajendranagar police inspector G Suresh denied this. “...By the time we reached there, the killers had already committed the offence and were about to leave. We immediately took them into custody,” he said.

Suresh said Ramesh was the prime accused in the murder of one Mahesh Goud in December last. Ramesh had killed Mahesh suspecting that the latter had an illicit affair with his wife. “The man who murdered Ramesh was identified as Mahesh’s father Kishta Goud and the other person who was arrested was Laxman Goud, brother of Kishta Goud.”
