PAK FAKE DEGREE SCAM: AXACT CEO SHAIKH ARRESTED

ISLAMABAD : Pakistan’s Federal Investigat­ion Agency (FIA) on Tuesday arrested and jailed Shoaib Shaikh, the owner and chief executive officer of Axact, a firm accused of producing and selling fake degrees worth millions of dollars. On July 6, the district and sessions judge in Islamabad had sentenced Shaikh to 20 years in jail in the fake degrees case. Twenty-four of his accomplice­s were also convicted and were given jail terms ranging between three and seven years. However, Shaikh did not surrender to the court following his conviction. The FIA arrested him after the Supreme Court set dates to resume hearing the matter this week.

Dunkin’ drops ‘Donuts’ from name in shift to coffee

REUTERS: Dunkin’ Donuts said on Tuesday it plans to rebrand itself as Dunkin’ as part of new CEO Dave Hoffman’s plans to bring beverages and breakfast meals to the forefront of the restaurant chain’s menu. Danish submarine killer loses appeal in court

COPENHAGEN: Danish submarine inventor Peter Madsen, convicted of torturing and murdering Swedish reporter Kim Wall last year, lost his appeal against his life sentence on Wednesday. In Denmark, a life sentence is on average 16 years, but can be extended if necessary. Madsen had wanted a time-limited sentence, not an open-ended prison term.
