REVAMP OF PUBLIC SPACES

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation will beautify open spaces under 26 of its flyovers and the Sion-panvel highway

The beautification proposal will include making space for plantations, constructing a walkway for the elderly and a play area for children

MSRDC’S decision also comes in the wake of a February 2016 order by the Bombay high court (HC) directing the state government to stop parking of vehicles under flyovers

The move is aimed at curbing the menace of illegal parking and discouraging encroachers who reside there in makeshift homes

The city’s first such garden was developed under the ND Mehta flyover in Matunga two years ago by the BMC Recently, a ‘garden-under-flyover’ project was completed on the Senapati Bapat Marg in Lower Parel.
