2 STEAL MOBILE PHONES FROM SOBO SHOP, HELD

MUMBAI: VP Road police recently arrested two people for breaking into a south Mumbai mobile phone store and stealing 49 phones worth ₹4.42 lakh. Arfin Sayyed and Shakib Shaikh stole the phones from a store at JSS Road in Girgaon with the help of a third accomplice on September 27. During investigat­ion, police found CCTV footage of the men escaping on a red scooter and carrying a white plastic bag. The detection team arrested the men on September 30.

Cops arrest 6 from Noida for fake call centre scam

MUMBAI: Six persons were arrested after the Cuffe parade police busted a Noida-based fake call centre involved in cheating prospectiv­e job-seekers. The police arrested Devrushi Sharma, 24, Vikrant Giri, 25, Jaydeep Shastri, 29, Shashank Dubey, 28, Sonal Rana, 35, and Manoj Tiwari, 32. The accused gave job-seekers fake confirmati­on letters and then usurped money as processing charges. A complaint was registered with the Cuffe Parade police in 2017 and the accused were caught from Noida before being brought to the city.

Edu dept reopens FYJC admissions on FCFS basis

MUMBAI: The state education department has re-opened admissions to first year junior college (FYJC) after getting requests from several students. A fourth first-come, first-served (FCFS) round will be held between October 8 and 17.

29yearold pelts stones at ST bus in Bhiwandi, booked

BHIWANDI: A 29-year-old man has been booked for pelting stones at a State Transport (ST) bus. On Friday, Paras Singh, a resident of Ulhasnagar boarded the bus at Bhiwandi and at the main Bhiwandi Chowk, asked the driver Jaidev Waghmare, 53, to stop the vehicle in the middle of the road so that he could alight. When Waghmare refused, Singh jumped from the bus and pelted stones at it, injuring one of the passengers before fleeing the spot.

No regular blocks on WR and CR on Sunday

MUMBAI: Central and Western Railways have announced they will not operate the weekly maintenanc­e block during the day on Sunday. Instead, the railways will operate midnight blocks on both lines. CR will operate a block between Matunga and Mulund station on the fast line from 1am to 6am and on the harbour line between CSMT and Kurla from 1.20am to 06.20am. WR will operate a maintenanc­e block between Mumbai Central and Santacruz stations from 12.30am to 04.30am.
