MUMBAI: Bollywood singer Nitin Bali, 47, died on Tuesday after he crashed his car into a divider near Thakur Complex, Kandivli (East).

Vinay Rathod, deputy commissioner of police (zone 12) said, “The accident occurred after midnight. Bali was under the influence of alcohol and lost control of his car. He was rushed to the hospital. However, he was treated for the superficial wounds on his face.”

The police said Bali’s car was travelling north bound on the Western Express Highway.

They said that after treatment, Bali was charged with rash and negligent driving under section 279 and 337 of the Motor Vehicle Act. “Bali refused to get admitted to the hospital. His wife then paid a personal bond and got him released on bail,” said an officer from the Kasturba Marg police station.

The officers said, early on Tuesday morning Bali was rushed to Shatabdi Hospital again after he vomited blood. His blood pressure went down and his heart beat fluctuated.

Dr Pramod Nagarkar, medical superintendent, Shatabdi Hospital, Kandivli said, “According to his medical history, Bali was first taken to a private hospital where he received treatment and was discharged. After going home, he apparently vomited blood and was brought to our hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival,” said Dr Nagarkar.

His body was sent to Bhagwati Post Mortem Centre for autopsy. Bali, who was married to actress Roma, was one of the most popular singers during the 1990s. He was well-known for his remixed track Neele Neele Ambar Par.
