MUMBAI:A 31-year-old man, who worked for an information technology company, was crushed to death as he tried to board a running train in Dadar on Saturday.

Prasad Pandhare, senior police inspector of Dadar Government Railway Police (GRP) said the deceased, identified as Sudarshan Sujitkumar Choudhary, was from Nagpur and worked for IBM in Goregaon.

Choudhary was on his way to a trek in Panvel on Saturday when the accident happened around 5:28am on platform number 1 of Dadar station.

After the accident, a commuter handed over a mobile phone he found to the Railway Police Force (RPF) officers at Dadar.

The RPF then gave the phone to the GRP officers to trace the owner of the phone.

“After tracing it, we found out it belonged to Choudhary, who had died in an accident a day ago,” said Pandhare. Choudhary had come to Mumbai in March and had joined a trekking group. Police said Choudhary went for trekking every month.

Based on the CCTV footage obtained from Dadar station’s platforms on Saturday morning, police were able to review the

exact sequence of events leading to Choudhary’s death.

“It is clear Choudhary was trying to board a running train and could not step on to it, with the force of the train dragging him along and making him fall in a gap at the end of the platform,” said Pandhare.

Choudhary was then rushed to Sion hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The cause of death was ascertained as a shock due to polytrauma.

“We are investigating the case and would record the statements of his friends who accompanied him on his trekking trips. Meanwhile, we have informed Choudhary’s parents who have arrived in Mumbai on Monday to collect his body,” added Pandhare.
