MUMBAI: After five consecutiv­e days, during which the maximum temperatur­e remained above 37° Celsius, the maximum temperatur­e on Tuesday dropped to 33.6° Celsius in the suburbs — 0.9° Celsius above normal. Temperatur­e recorded in south Mumbai was 34° Celsius, which was

1.7° Celsius above normal.

Drug, cosmetics firms will now pay fines for violations

MUMBAI: In a major relief for drug and cosmetics manufactur­ing companies and distributo­rs, the state on Tuesday decided to introduced penalty for minor violations in the rules related to manufactur­ing, sale, distributi­on, import of drugs and cosmetics under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.

Three star tortoises rescued in Ghatkopar

MUMBAI: Forest department officials on Monday night rescued three star tortoises from a minor in Ghatkopar. Officials said the boy had made a Whatsapp group and shared photos of the animals for sale on it. S Kank, range forest officer from Mumbai said officials from his department pretended to be customers and contacted the 17-year-old for buying the tortoises.

Circular allotting marks to special kids scrapped

MUMBAI: The state education department on Tuesday withdrew a circular that allowed students with special needs to be allotted 20 marks for orals/ practicals in all subjects for

23 held for gambling; cash, cellphones confiscate­d

THANE: Twenty-three people were arrested for gambling at a residence in Vasind on Tuesday. During the raid, the police seized cash and mobile phones worth ₹3.3 lakh. All the accused are residents of the neighbouri­ng locality.
