Digital database of Class 10 board evaluators soon

MUMBAI: In order to address the shortage of evaluators, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has decided to have an online database of teachers who are eligible for Class 10 board answer paper assessments.

The board has asked schools across the state to send details of all the eligible teachers to the respective divisional boards. The data would then be collated at the divisional level and would be updated every year during the exam season.

While the Pune divisional board has already issued a circular for its schools, the Mumbai divisional board would do so in the coming week.

“Schools should collate names of teachers who teach various subjects for Class 10 and upload this data on the websites of the respective divisional boards. This information would then be verified against the school database on the state education department’s information portal – SARAL,” read the guidelines issued by the board.

Sharad Khandagale, secretary , Mumbai divisional board, said the move would compel schools to give the right information.

“Every year , we face shortage of teachers as the number of student applications to appear for

class 10 exams keep growing. Many schools fail to update their database, as a result of which eligible teachers are left out of the process.

Digitising this would bring in some accountability and would speed up the evaluation process, he said.

Uday Nare, teacher at Hansraj Morarji Public School in Andheri said the idea to digitise the database is a good move.

“In a first, the board is asking schools to upload the data of evaluators online. While this is a good move, the decision should have come before the academic year started so that the schools can prepare for the same,” he added.
