Cop’s son arrested for assaulting police

ABHIJIT ASSAULTED THE OFFICER IN A FIT OF RAGE AFTER THE POLICE TRIED TO STOP HIM FROM BEATING UP A WOMAN IN KALYAN

KALYAN: The Kalyan police have arrested a police officer’s son for abusing and assaulting a police inspector in Kalyan on Thursday.

According to the police, Abhijit Shinde, 27, assaulted Aslam Khatib, assistant police inspector of Mahatma Phule police station, when the police had tried to stop Abhijit from beating up a woman on Thursday in Kalyan.

Abhijit is the son of Prakash Shinde, a police inspector attached to Mumbai police headquarte­rs.

“On Thursday, while patrolling, we saw Abhijit beating up a woman. When we tried to stop him from hitting the woman, he got angry and caught hold of Khatib’s collar and also tore his shirt button,” said P Londhe, senior police inspector, Mahatma Phule police station.

N Kadjav, investigat­ion officer, Mahatma Phule police, said that Abhijit was later arrested and booked under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntaril­y causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), and 504 (intentiona­l insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Abhijit was later produced in court and was remanded in police custody till October 20.
