61yearold who sexually assaulted minor in 2015 gets 10 years in prison
MUMBAI : A special court under the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on Saturday sentenced a 61-yearold man to 10 years of imprisonment for sexually assaulting his neighbour’s four-year-old daughter in 2015.
The court has also directed the convict to pay a fine of ₹46,000 as compensation to the survivor.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on May 24, 2015, when the girl was playing with a few children in the neighbourhood. The accused lured her by offering her sweets and invited her into his home. In the meantime, the survivor’s mother noticed the girl was missing and began to inquire with the neighbours and calling out to her.
As per the mother’s deposition, when she called out to her, the accused opened the door. The mother saw her daughter lying on the floor, naked and bleeding.the accused was in his undergarments, the mother claimed. The family immediately rushed her to the hospital and filed a complaint at the Bhandup police station.
The medical tests revealed injuries on her private parts and signs of sexual assault. Public prosecutor Geeta Sharma examined 11 witnesses, including the survivor, her mother and the neighbours. Based on the testimonies and medical reports, the court convicted the man for sexual assault.
