13 MONTHS IN JAIL FOR MAN WHO SLASHED WIFE

MUMBAI: A metropolit­an court on Tuesday sentenced Prakash Jamdhade, 54, to 13 months in jail for attacking his wife Kamalbai with a cutter on her face and abdomen. Jamdhade suspected his wife of having an affair and would quarrel with her regularly. On May 23, he accosted her outside a general store near their house. Hearing her screams, her son Anil rushed out to find her lying in a pool of blood.

Man dupes 15 in Rajasthan, nabbed in Goregaon

MUMBAI: On Friday, the Mumbai crime branch arrested Giridhar Rajkumar Gattani, 39, a suspect wanted by Rajasthan police for cheating at least 15 businessme­n by offering them fake business loans. Gattani was in hiding in Mumbai since the last one month and was arrested from Goregaon (East) after police were alerted that he cheated a Jaipur businessma­n of ₹3.50 lakh after assuring him a loan of ₹50 lakh.

BMC demolishes illegal structures at 11 restaurant­s

MUMBAI: The civic body on Saturday carried out demolition­s at 11 high-end restaurant­s in Juhu, Vile Parle, and Andheri (West) for encroachin­g on open spaces. “The restaurant­s are given permission­s by the local ward office to cover the open spaces during monsoon. Other than that the area should be kept open and should not be used for storage, service or any other purposes,” said a civic official from the encroachme­nt removal department.

Iron girder collapses on car, bike at Mankhurd

MUMBAI: An iron girder collapsed at an under-constructi­on site at Ghatkopar-mankhurd link road after a trailer rammed into it on Saturday evening near Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar signal. According to a BMC official, the girder crashed onto a car and a bike but no casualties reported.

130 companies take part in Goregaon employment fair

MUMBAI: Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray Saturday inaugurate­d the Balasaheb Thackeray Rozgar Melava job fair in Goregaon. According to a statement, 5,000 youngsters had applied online to register for the fair, while 2,000 applied offline. About 130 companies from Mumbai and surroundin­g areas took part in the job fair, the statement informed.
