9YROLD KILLED IN ‘HUMAN SACRIFICE’, TWO ARRESTED

BHUBANESWA­R: A nine-year-old boy from Bolangir district, whose decapitate­d body was found earlier this week, was a victim of human sacrifice, police said Saturday. Two people, including the boy’s uncle and brother, have been arrested for their alleged involvemen­t in the brutal killing, one of whom have confessed to the crime, they said. Titlagarh Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Saroj Mohapatra said the accused persons had sacrificed the boy to “appease goddess Durga for fulfilment of their wishes”.

Three Maoists killed in Chhattisga­rh, arms seized

RAIPUR: Three Maoists were killed in a shootout with the police in Chhattisga­rh’s Bijapur district on Saturday, police said. Superinten­dent of police Mohit Garg told reporters that along with the bodies of the three Maoists, .303 rifles, two loaded guns, cartridges and several other weapons were recovered. He said a police platoon had gone on patrol in Madpal village area on Thursday. A group of Maoists fired at them on Saturday and in retaliator­y firing three Maoists were killed.

40 outfits call bandh on Oct 23 over Citizenshi­p Bill

GUWAHATI: At least 40 organisati­ons belonging to different indigenous communitie­s have called for a dawn-to-dusk bandh on October 23 opposing the Citizenshi­p (Amendment) Bill 2016, according to Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi. He said the Assam Jatiyataba­di Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) and 40 other organisati­ons have joined hands to call the bandh. “The BJP government in Assam came to power promising to protect ‘Jati’, ‘Mati’, and ‘Bheti’ (community, land and foundation) of Assam. However, it has made a U-turn on its promises and is hatching a conspiracy against indigenous communitie­s,” said Gogoi while addressing a press conference.
