With hosts seen as favourites for the five-match ODI series, West Indies will not leave any stone unturned. The captain will have to make a fresh start to change the scenario. Taking over the reins of the West Indies’ national team in ODI format from Dwayne Bravo, Jason Holder has made all-out efforts to scale up the performance of the team.

Holder has grown as a captain in the recent years, exhibiting an ever-improving temperament and progress in technical and tactical awareness. He is also a handy batsman, lower down the order. Holder as a bowler has been excelling by leaps and bounds in the recent years and it can be said that he is at the zenith of his captaincy career.

Holder might have a rather poor record as skipper but he has led from the front. He seems to have admitted the issues and tried his best to find solutions. Holder has been giving a befitting reply to his critics with exceptional performances on the field.

He has many a time exceeded expectations in the batting department though, punching above his weight whenever the top-order has failed to deliver. More than just the numbers, Holder has shown the will to fight it out when it actually matters for the team. In most of West Indies’ wins in the last two years, Holder has played a significant role. Holder mixes his deliveries well by bowling at nagging lines and disconcerting bounce.

The West Indian has represented teams, such as Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad before, but has not been able to set the tournament on fire. However, with this new found form, Jason Holder will be an appropriate fit in most of the teams as many teams keep looking for a good bowling all-rounder.

EARLY CAREER

The West Indian was called up for 2010 Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand, where he was the team’s one of the highest wicket-takers.

Holder has time and again caught the limelight with some remarkable performances against some of the top teams of the game.

After some good performances in limited overs arena, Holder was picked for the test squad in 2014. He made his test debut on June 26-30 2014 against New Zealand.

In the first innings, he did not take any wicket but bowled economically with four maidens. In the second innings, Holder took his maiden test wicket by removing Ross Taylor for 16 runs. He ended the match with 2 for 50. In batting, Holder scored 90 runs in the match including his maiden Test fifty. However, his team lost the match by 53 runs.

Under his captaincy, West Indies reached quarter finals of the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup where it lost to New Zealand. In the tournament, Holder scored two consecutive fifties both in losing causes to South Africa and India, respectively.
