Drunk driver rams car into wall, dies on the spot, 2 others injured
MUMBAI: A 27-year-old driver of a tourist car, allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, lost control of the vehicle and rammed into another car before eventually crashing into the boundary wall of a bridge on the Western Express Highway (WEH) on Saturday night in Borivli (East).
The driver died in the crash, and his two friends in the car were grievously injured.
According to Kasturba Marg police, the deceased Ajit Argade, 27, a native of Satara, was driving a tourist car along with his friends Ravindra Jamble, 27, and Nilesh Bhatuse, 29. They were travelling towards south Mumbai. Another motorist Narendra Rajput, 67, a resident of Borivli, was travelling with his relatives in his car towards Andheri.
Rajput told police that Argade’s car rammed his from behind before swerving into the boundary wall at the start of the bridge. Passing motorists and pedestrians rushed the trio to Seven Star Hospital in Kandivli (East) but Argade was declared dead on admission.
Jamble, a resident of Devpada in Borivli and Bhatuse, a resident of Siddhivinayak chawl in Kandivli were unconscious when admitted and had suffered grievous injuries.
Argade has been posthumously booked under the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicle Act for rash, drunk driving, and causing his own death due to negligence.
