BANDRA LOCALS GET A SHREDDER FOR GREEN WASTE

MUMBAI: On Friday, residents of Bandra reclamatio­n will inaugurate a shredder especially to deal with green waste like branches, leaves and twigs. This would ensure even lesser waste is taken to the dumping ground and green waste is tackled at the source itself, which would eventually go into wet waste processing.

Get products by selfhelp groups on Amazon now

MUMBAI: More than 150 products made by women self-help groups in the state are now available online on e-commerce company — Amazon. The products comprise ghee, wafers, hand-made bags, tastemaker­s made up of Indian spices (masala), chutni, jewelries, decorative door-hangings etc. The Maharashtr­a Financial Developmen­t Corporatio­n has become a facilitato­r through which products made by women self-help groups will be sold on Amazon.

36yearold held for raping colleague in Kharghar

NAVI MUMBAI: A 36-year-old man who allegedly raped one of his junior colleagues at Kharghar, was arrested by the Navi Mumbai police on Thursday. The incident took place at Kharghar on Saturday night. The victim had alleged that Kharghar police was reluctant to register a rape case when she approached them on Sunday until she narrated her plight to city police commission­er Sanjay Kumar on Wednesday.

KVIC to give charkhas, looms to Yerwada inmates

MUMBAI: As a part of 150th birth anniversar­y celebratio­ns of Mahatma Gandhi, Khadi and Village Industries Commission will be providing 50 charkhas and five looms to Yerwada jail to provide training and job opportunit­ies to prisoners. Around 75 women and 10 men from the jail will be trained to work on charkhas and looms.

Water pipeline burst floods Marine Drive promenade

MUMBAI: The promenade of Marine Drive opposite the Air India building at Nariman Point was flooded as a water pipeline burst on Thursday evening. The Brihanmumb­ai Municipal Corporatio­n barricaded the footpath and closed the main source of water supply to the pipeline.

Dumpers caught spilling waste in A ward, penalised

MUMBAI: The BMC has cracked the whip on dumpers caught spilling waste on some of roads in the A ward (Colaba, Fort and Nariman Point) of the city on Tuesday. Dumpers carrying excavated material of Metro constructi­on work were caught spilling waste and fined. The civic body has seized three to four dumpers and slapped a fine of ₹10,000 on each dumper.
