KHALEEL WARNED FOR SAMUELS SENDOFF IN ODI

Ahmed was on Tuesday warned and handed a demerit point for giving an “aggressive” send-off to West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels during the fourth ODI in Mumbai. Ahmed was found guilty of a Level 1 breach in the ICC Code of Conduct. “The incident happened in the 14th over, when the left-armer, after having Marlon Samuels caught in the slips by Rohit Sharma, advanced aggressive­ly towards the departing batter, which, in the view of the on-field umpires, could have provoked a reaction from the Windies player,” said the ICC in a release. Ahmed violated Article 2.5 of the Code, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an internatio­nal match”. The 20year-old admitted the offence.

India, WI arrive as ticket sales peak for last ODI

THIRUVANAN­THAPURAM : Even as the India and West Indies players arrived here to a rousing welcome from fans and supporters on Tuesday afternoon for the fifth and final ODI, the Kerala Cricket Associatio­n (KCA) is in an upbeat mood as ticket sales have by now crossed ~3 crore. KCA officials are confident that the last ticket will be sold before Thursday afternoon. In the over 45,000 capacity stadium, the KCA has decided to provide tickets for students at 50 per cent discount. “Close to 30,000 tickets have been sold and in the remaining two days, we are confident that the last ticket also would be sold. Students need to bring their identity card and can get ~1000 worth ticket for ~500,” said a KCA official. The wicket is expected to be easy for batting and the team that wins the toss would like to put up a big total and defend it.
