Maruti reports marginal hike in Oct sales, M&M posts 14% rise

NEWDELHI: The country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India Thursday reported a marginal increase in sales at 1,46,766 units in October. The company had sold 1,46,446 units in October last year, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said in a statement.

Domestic sales were up 1.5% at 138,100 units last month as against 136,000 units in the year ago month, it added.

Sales of mini cars comprising Alto and Wagonr were at 32,835 units, up 1.1% compared with 32,490 units in October last year.

Similarly, sales of compact segment, including models such as Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire, were up 3.7% at 64,789 units as against 62,480 units in October last year, the company said. Mid-sized sedan Ciaz sold 3,892 units as compared with 4,107 units in the same month a year ago. However, utility vehicles, including Vitara Brezza, S-cross and Ertiga were down 11.2% at 20,764 units as compared to 23,382 units in the year-ago month, MSI said. Exports in October were down by 17% at 8,666 units as against 10,446 units in the correspond­ing month last year, the company said.

Utility vehicles major Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) reported 14% increase in its total sales at 58,416 units in October.

The company had sold 51,160 units in the same month last year, M&M said in a statement.

In the domestic market, sales were up by 13% at 55,350 units last month as compared with 48,860 units in October 2017.

Exports also increased 33 per cent at 3,066 units in October against 2,300 units in the same month last year.

Sales of passenger vehicles (which includes utility vehicles, cars and vans) were at 24,066 units, up by 3%, as compared to 23,453 units in the same month last year.

TVS Motor Co. reported 26% rise in sales to 398,427 units in October as against 317,411 units in the same month last year.

Total two-wheeler sales grew 25% at 3,84,307 units last month as compared to 3,08,364 units in the year-ago month, TVS Motor said in a statement.

Ford India reported 42% increase in total sales at 21,346 units in October as compared to 15,033 units in the same month last year.

Domestic sales jumped over two-fold at 9,044 units in October as against 4,218 units in the yearago month, Ford India said in a statement.
