MUMBAI: The Mumbai crime branch on Thursday arrested two more people in the surety scam, taking the number of arrests to 10. The accused had submitted forged documents in courts and gave fake surety to secure bail applicatio­ns of around 370 people accused in serious offences like murder, attempt to murder and rape for ₹25,000 to ₹40,000.

Man sedates domestic help, repeatedly rapes her

MUMBAI: After being on the run for over a month, the Charkop police recently arrested a Malad resident who allegedly sedated and repeatedly raped his domestic help for over a month.

Have 388 witnesses in Malegaon blast case: NIA

MUMBAI: The National Investigat­ing Agency (NIA) on Friday, shared a list of 388 witnesses and 216 documents, which they claimed would be used to prove charges against seven accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. This will be the first stage of the trial where the prosecutio­n had to give the details of evidence they would rely on.

Arms haul case: Court asks ATS investigat­ion’s status

MUMBAI: The special court under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act asked the anti-terrorism squad (ATS) to explain what investigat­ion is remaining for the agency to file chargeshee­ts against the 12 arrested accused in connection with the Nalla Sopara arms haul. The ATS has sought extension of 90 days to submit the chargeshee­ts claiming that the investigat­ion is pending.

Sheena Bora murder case: Driver to get legal help

MUMBAI: One of the suspects in the Sheena Bora murder case, Shyamvar Rai had asked the special CBI court on Friday to decide on his bail. The court has, however, asked him to put forth his legal submission­s afresh and also ordered the legal aid department to provide a lawyer from the penal of legal aid to represent his case.

BMC suspends 14 workers for being absent from site

MUMBAI: The BMC suspended 14 conservanc­y workers, in charge of cleaning the Marine Drive area in the A ward, on Friday, for being absent from work. The BMC had conducted a surprise inspection on Friday and noticed that 13 workers who were marked present for duty, were not present to clean the streets. The civic body then suspended the 13 workers and a mukadam.

Two men die after truck hits their bike in Kolhapur

KOLHAPUR: Sachin Kumbhar, 25, and Chandrakan­t Kumbhar, 24, died on the spot when their bike was hit by a truck at Gadhinglaj in Kolhapur on Thursday.

20yearold commits suicide, cause unknown

KOLHAPUR: Onkar Sonule, 20, residing in a suburb of Kolhapur, hung himself and ended life on Thursday. The cause of his suicide is not ascertaine­d.
