NEWDELHI: Siddhesh Lad fell one run short of a century but Shivam Dube scored a quick 114 to help Mumbai cross the 400-run mark in their Elite Group A match of the Ranji Trophy against Railways here at the Karnail Singh Stadium on Friday.

At stumps on Day Two, Railways were reeling at 115 for six in reply to Mumbai’s first innings score of 411, trailing by 296 runs.

Lad was dismissed in the eighth over of the morning session but Dube did not allow Railways to build on the momentum, blazing 114 off just 139 deliveries. The No 7 batsman for the 41-time Ranji champions cracked 13 fours and four sixes to score the first hundred for his side this season. In the process, Dube also stitched a vital 56-run seventhwicket partnership with the stand-in Mumbai captain Dhawal Kulkarni, who scored a patient 22 off 56 deliveries laced with three fours and a six.

Kulkarni fell when the score read 365 but consecutive stands of 20 and 22 runs helped Mumbai to cross the 400-run mark. Dube was the ninth wicket to fall at 407. Railways couldn’t inspire themselves after that as Mumbai medium pacer Tushar Deshpande combined with Dhawal Kulkarni to run through the top and middle order.

Arindam Ghosh’s watchful 39 not out for which he faced 115 deliveries held one end for the hosts, as they lost four of their batsmen for single-digit scores. Deshpande finished the day’s play with the figures of 11-2-29-3, assisted well by Kulkarni who bowled a measly spell of 9-3-14-1.

BIHAR THRASHED

Bihar were given a sound thrashing on their return to top flight cricket as Team Uttarakhand defeated them by 10 wickets to scoop maximum points from their Plate Group match in Dehradun.

Opener Karanveer Kaushal’s 91 and Saurabh Rawat’s 64 helped Uttarakhand reach 227 after Bihar were skittled out for just 60 in the first innings. In reply Bihar could muster only 169, leaving Uttarakhand just three runs to win.
