Minor girls ‘not poisoned’, says initial report

- Anvit Srivastava

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police have received the viscera reports of the three minor sisters who died in east Delhi’s Mandawali in July this year allegedly due to starvation. While initial reports suggest that there was no administration of poison to the deceased, a final opinion is awaited, senior police officers said.

If poisoning allegedly by the deceased’s father is ruled out, starvation will be established as the main cause of death of the three sisters, the police said.

On Sunday, deputy commissioner of police (east) Pankaj Kumar Singh confirmed that they have received the viscera report, but said that final opinion is awaited.

A senior officer said that the viscera report suggests “no poisoning”.

However, he said that a medical board from the GTB hospital, where the second post mortem of the three girls was conducted, would give the final opinion on the viscera report.

“It is expected that father’s role in poisoning the girls will be ruled out. But we are waiting for the final report,” the officer said, requesting anonymity.

Viscera samples of the three girls -- Mansi, 8, Shikha, 4, and 2-year-old Parul -- had been preserved following suspicion that their father, Mangal Singh, could have poisoned them. Mangal is at large since July 23, a night before his daughters died.

Meanwhile, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal on Sunday said that in a reply dated October 17, the DCW was informed by the forensic science laboratory (FSL) that the viscera report is lying since September 28 and despite intimation the police did not collect it.

Maliwal said that the commission had solicited a reply on the action taken in this matter by the police, which informed that report of the viscera samples deposited in FSL are still awaited.

“The commission believes that this delay is unpardonable and has asked the police to provide DCW with the status of investigation in the matter,” Maliwal said in a statement.
