MUMBAI: Commuters travelling on Sunday on the central suburban rail corridor faced inconvenie­nce as the Central Railway (CR) operated a maintenanc­e block between Thane and Kalyan stations. The block was operated from 10.30am to 3.00pm. Local trains on the CR’S mainline were operating with delays. No maintenanc­e block was undertaken on harbour line of the CR and Western Railway.

Massive fire breaks out at Digha; no one injured

NAVI MUMBAI: A massive fire broke out in a tyres shop at Digha on Sunday evening. No one was injured in the accident. The police said that the fire broke out around 7.45pm and rapidly spread to nearby areas. Fire brigade officials reached the spot on time and doused it within one hour. An electric short circuit is suspected to have cause the fire.

Five die in three separate accidents on Saturday

KOLHAPUR: Three people died after their bike was hit by a truck at Ajra in Kolhapur on Saturday. The victims are identified as Rajesh Redekar, 26, Bayakka Patil, 56, and Rutuja Patil, 18. In another accident, Sanjay Patil, 45, died when a car hit his bike at Kagal. In the third case, Megha Patil, 27, died when her sari was caught in a grinding machine and she was crushed to death.

Villagers protest against sugar mill causing pollution

KOLHAPUR: Villagers of Belewadi in Kolhapur held massive demonstrat­ions against a co-operative sugar mill owned by Hasan Mushrif, an MLA of the Nationalis­t Congress Party (NCP), for releasing effluents in the river. Death toll in Nashik accident goes up to five

NASHIK: The death toll in the accident involving a car and a private bus near Bhokani village on the Sinnar-shirdi road on Saturday evening has gone up to five, with two children also succumbing to their injuries, police said Sunday. Three people had died on the spot and many others were injured when their car proceeding to Sinnar in Nashik district collided with the bus, which was heading towards the temple town of Shirdi in Ahmednagar district, an official of the Wavi police station said.
