Packers pip IC Borivali to emerge champs

MUMBAI: Bandra Packers came up with a spirited performance to pip Immaculate Conception SC, Borivali 5-4 in the Open Ladies finals of the Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana’s 5-a-side Rink Football Tournament, at the Gymkhana’s tennis courts. RESULTS

Open Ladies (finals): Lupcha Sushmita 1) bt Immaculate Conception, Borivali 4 (Angela Rumao 2, Valencia D’mello 2).

Open Veteran Men’s (finals): Ronnie 7s 5 (Glen Moraes 2, Philip D’souza 2, Kishore Shetty 1) bt Spartans SC 1 (Agnelo D’silva 1).

STATE SNOOKER

The second leg of the BSAM Maharashtra State Senior Snooker & Billiards Selection Championship 2018 will commence at the Bombay Gymkhana billiards room on Monday. Rishabh Thakkar of Otters Club and Sparsh Pherwani of Cricket Club of India, the first leg billiards and snooker champions respectively, are the firm favourites to win the title .

SCHOOL CHESS FIESTA

Over a thousand school children from some 500 institutions from across the state would be seen vying for top honours in the Mahavir Prasad Morarka Memorial Maharashtra State School Chess Championship, beginning at Nehru Science Centre tower, Worli on Children’s Day (November 14).

The five-day tournament is a joint initiative of the South Mumbai Chess Academy (SMCA) and Indian Chess School (ICS). The tournament would be played under FIDE (world chess federation) laws over nine rounds of Swiss league format in six different age categories.
