MUMBAI: After a year’s delay in starting the repair work for the Nitin Cadbury flyover in Thane, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has asked the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) to reassess the flyover again for structural damage this week.

On Monday, MSRDC wrote a letter to IIT-B, asking them to reassess the cracks on the piers of the 3-km flyover, in two days. MSRDC is likely to spend ₹56 lakh in the repair works. “We have asked the institute to reassess the flyover as the report was submitted last November and more cracks could have developed in a year. Once we have the exact number of cracks in place, we can issue tenders for the repair work,” said an MSRDC official .

The flyover has cracks on the piers, which need immediate attention. The MSRDC official said that as per earlier reports, the cracks are at a range of 32,000-35,000 metres on the flyover.

The flyover connects Majiwada in Thane to Louis wadi. It was built in 1999 at a cost of ₹49.37 crore.

In November 2017, IIT-B had studied 22 flyovers in and around the city and said that two flyovers – Sion and Nitin Cadbury – require immediate attention. However, a year on, the MSRDC is yet to initiate the repair works on both the flyovers.

Meanwhile, officials said repairs on the Sion flyover will also be initiated soon.

The MSRDC will spend ₹5.32 crore for repairing the bearings and expansion joints. It will also shut traffic on the crucial flyover for about a month or two till the repair works are completed. MUMBAI: A petition over the reservation for the handicapped in public services such as Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Indian Foreign Services (IFS) and Indian Revenue Services (IRS) was filed in the Bombay high court on October 31.

The petition was filed by Jayant Mankale, a blind candidate, who failed to secure a job despite ranking 923 in the Civil Services Examinations held in 2017.

He claimed posts reserved for blind candidates were clubbed with those having low vision, owing to which he was unable to secure a posting. The petition requests exclusive reservation for blind people in public services.

In the petition filed through senior advocate Satish Talekar, Mankale said of the 28 posts reserved from 920 public service seats, only eight posts are for people with visual impairment — blind and low vision and both are in the same category. Mankale said when he applied for a post in the relevant category his name did not appear in the list.

An inquiry revealed that of the eight posts reserved for visually impaired candidates, five were
