BENGALURU : Qualifier Youssef Hossam of Egypt pulled off an upset win, the biggest of his career, as he sent top seed Radu Albot of Moldova packing in a first round match of the Bengaluru Tennis Open ATP Challenger Tour here on Tuesday.

It hadn’t been the best of draws for the young Egyptian, ranked 483, as he was pitted against the top seed Albot, ranked 101 in the world. But the 20-year-old overcame nerves and a one-set deficit to oust his Moldovan opponent.

After Albot breezed through the first set 6-2, Hossam won the next two sets 6-2, 6-2 to leave the top seed stunned.

“It’s a pretty good win. I must admit it wasn’t the best of the draws. The first set was down to nervousness but then I got everything going for me,” Hossam said.

“Today I played well in the second half of the match,” Hossam further added.
