Social media star Lilly Singh to take a break from Youtube
TORONTO: Indo-canadian Youtube superstar Lilly Singh has announced she is taking a break from the platform for the sake of her “sanity”.
In a nearly eight-minute video posted on her channel on Youtube, Singh, who was born at Scarborough in Toronto, said she was “mentally, physically and emotionally and spiritually exhausted”. The 30-year-old, who has amassed more than 14 million followers since she first started posting videos in 2010 as Iisuperwomanii, explained the reason for her decision: “Why do I want to take a break? There’s many reasons. First and foremost, my mental health.”
She gave a shout out to other Youtube personalities who have opted to take break, for “prioritising your mental health”. She said she didn’t want to be “dramatic”, but “there’s a lot going up here that I need to address and I’m not able to, constantly pumping out content”.
Singh, who tours around the world and wrote the bestselling non-fiction How To Be A Bawse: A Guide To Conquering Life last year, said, “I really need this for my sanity, for my happiness and just be better.”
During the video, she pointed out she had always been “about happiness” and “What kind of person would I be if I preached that and didn’t actually practice that myself?”
During the course of her Youtube career, Singh was ranked among the top earners and influencers on the platform. She also appeared in Canadian and Indian films.
